HAVANA, January 6 (RIA Novosti) – A cat has been caught while trying to slip through the gates of a northeastern Brazilian prison with numerous tools taped to its body, including a saw and drills, local media have reported.

The white cat, which was spotted by the guards at a jail in Arapiraca city, in Brazil's Alagoas state, was caught also carrying an earphone, a memory card, batteries and a phone charger.

“An agent saw the cat and went to look at it closely because something about it seemed wrong," the head of the prison guards’ union, Marcelo Avelino, told the O Globo newspaper.

The cat was raised by the prisoners and relatives often took it after a prison visit. The guards said they were surprised by the new tactic of the prisoners, who trained the cat to come back to the prison with the materials.

The animal has been sent to a local animal centre.
