MOSCOW, January 26 (RIA Novosti) - Protests turned violent as tens of thousands of people took to the streets of Egyptian cities to demand that President Mohammed Morsi step down on the second anniversary of the revolution that had swept Hosni Mubarak from power, media reported.

At least seven people were killed in clashes between protesters and police on Friday, and 476 wounded, Al Jazeera quoted a police source as saying.

In Cairo, Morsi’s opponents clashed with police outside his palace and near Tahrir Square. Rallies also turned to clashes in other cities across Egypt. Police reportedly fired tear gas and protesters threw stones.

The highest death toll was recorded in Suez, where at least six people, including a 14-year-old boy, were killed, according to Al Jazeera. There, protesters set fire to a building that once housed the local government. One person died in Ismailia east of Cairo.

Trooped were deployed to Suez.

On his Twitter account, Morsi called on Egyptians “to adhere to the values of the revolution, express opinions freely and peacefully and renounce violence.”
