MEXICO, February 1 (RIA Novosti) - At least 14 people were killed and 80 injured in Mexico City after an explosion rocked a skyscraper complex that houses headquarters of country’s oil monopoly Pemex, Mexican Interior Minister Angel Osorio Chong said.

The minister said that the cause of the explosion, which took place in the basement of an auxiliary building of the complex, was not yet determined.

The main floor of the building was heavily damaged by the blast with windows shattered several floors up. Authorities say, however, there is no risk of the building’s collapse.

Firefighters and rescuers are clearing the debris trying to get to the basement, where up to 30 people could be trapped. In all, some 10,000 people worked in the buildings of Pemex skyscraper complex.

Mexican President Pena Nieto arrived at the scene of the explosion joining the country’s interior minister, the prosecutor general and the mayor of the Mexico City.
