New Earthquake of 6.2 Magnitude Hits Solomon Islands

MOSCOW, February 7 (RIA Novosti) - A 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck the Solomon Islands on early Thursday, a day after the previous quake of 8.0 magnitude killed at least eight people, the US geological survey service said.
The epicenter of the new quake was registered on the Nendo Island some 160 kilometers (about 100 miles) to the southwest of the city of Lata and at the depth of 9.8 kilometers (six miles).
There was no immediate information on human casualties and damages to local infrastructure.
On Wednesday, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami warning for the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Tuvalu, New Caledonia, Kosrae, Fiji, Kiribati, and Wallis and Futuna islands.
