MOSCOW, February 17 (RIA Novosti) – The death toll in a suicide bomb attack in southwestern Pakistan has exceeded 80 people and more than 200 others are injured, local police reported on Sunday.
Previous reports said at least 63 people were killed in the suicide bomb attack.
The explosion occurred on Saturday and targeted Pakistan's minority Shia population as dozens were shopping at a crowded vegetable market in Quetta, local officials said.
Rescue workers and victims' families are still identifying bodies and the death toll is likely to rise further, local community leaders told Al Jazeera.
The suicide bomber vehicle was packed with some 800 kg of explosives and caused nearby buildings to collapse, officials said.
For years Sunni Muslim extremist groups have targeted Shiites in Pakistan. In early January, 92 people were killed and more than 120 injured in twin suicide bomb blasts in Quetta.
