MOSCOW, February 24 (RIA Novosti) - Italians will on Sunday go to vote in general elections that are seen as very important for the country’s effort to address its economic problems, media reported.
Recent estimates gave a lead to Pier Luigi Bersani's center-left alliance, thought to be a few points ahead of the center-right bloc led by ex-premier Silvio Berlusconi, the BBC reported Sunday.
The other contenders in the election held Sunday and Monday are comedian Beppe Grillo's anti-establishment movement and a centrist coalition led by outgoing Prime Minister Mario Monti.
The Eurozone's third largest economy, Italy is in deep recession.
The vote was called ahead of schedule, after Berlusconi's party withdrew its support for Monti's technocratic government.
