MOSCOW, March 2 (RIA Novosti) – Women in the ex-Soviet state of Turkmenistan will receive 40 manats or $14 this week as a gift from the state ahead of the International Women's Day, celebrated on March 8.
According to a decree signed by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow on Friday, all women regardless of their age and occupation will get the bonus, turkmenistan.ru website reported.
In addition, a total of 174 mothers of large families in the impoverished country will be honored ahead of the holiday.
March 8 became an official celebration in Russia soon after the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917, and remains popular in the former Soviet republics.

News that Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin would resign in order to run for the mayoral election in September came as quite a shock. Sobyanin’s political potential is fairly dubious, not to mention his approval ratings. He has not finished many of the projects he initiated and the electoral effect from these projects is expected to come a bit later than September 2013. Sobyanin’s opponents were not entirely unprepared for this blitzkrieg.
