The prime minister of the Czech Republic, Petr Necas, has announced that he would resign Monday over a scandal involving his aide, media reported.

MOSCOW, June 17 (RIA Novosti) - The prime minister of the Czech Republic, Petr Necas, has announced that he would resign Monday over a scandal involving his aide, media reported.

Necas has been under pressure to quit since prosecutors on Friday charged Jana Nagyova, his chief of staff, with corruption and abuse of power, the BBC reported. Five other suspects have also been detained.

Nagyova is suspected of bribing MPs and illegally ordering intelligence agents to spy on people.

President Milos Zeman has called the charges, brought following police raids on government and private offices on Wednesday, “serious.”

Necas has rejected all accusations against Nagyova and the other five accused. He said his ruling coalition would try to form a new government, the British broadcaster reported.
