MOSCOW, August 11 (RIA Novosti) - US drones strikes killed up to five al-Qaida militants Saturday after hitting their vehicles in southern Yemen, media reported citing officials.
The target of the air raid was an al-Qaida convoy of two pick-up trucks in the east of the Lahj province, the Xinhua news agency reported Sunday quoting an unnamed Yemeni security official.
“Two air strikes were launched by a US aircraft and completely destroyed two cars carrying suspected al-Qaida members in the valley of Bana in Lahj's suburbs, and killed five. Some of the dead were believed to be foreign nationals,” the official said as quoted by the Chinese news agency.
Washington has intensified its drone strikes against al-Qaida in Yemen since it closed its diplomatic mission in the capital Sanaa last Sunday.
According to the BBC, the latest raid left two militants killed and two wounded.
US drone strikes have reportedly left over 30 militants dead since July 27.
