MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russia does not seek to isolate itself, but will respond appropriately if Ukraine reinstates visa travel, Russian State Secretary and Deputy Foreign Minister Grigoriy Karasin said Thursday.
On October 3, the speaker of Ukraine's parliament said that he wanted to renew debate on reinstating visa regime with Russia.
"Of course, we are closely monitoring the situation and, if necessary, we will respond appropriately. In any case, we do not seek to isolate ourselves from the close to us in spirit, faith and outlook Ukrainian people," Karasin told RIA Novosti in an interview.
He added that even after certain steps undertaken by Kiev that had complicated the border crossing for the Russian citizens, Moscow had not responded in the same way.
On October 7, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also said that Moscow would take appropriate measures if Kiev reinstated visa regime for the Russian nationals.
