MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday congratulated Russians on the occasion of the May 9 Victory Day.
"Dear veterans, soldiers, … heroes of the special military operation, I congratulate you on Victory Day," Putin said at the Victory Day parade in Red Square.
The president also called all participants of Russia’s special military operation "heroes" and announced a minute of silence at the end of his speech.
"We celebrate Victory Day in the context of the special military operation. All its members, those on the front line, along the line of contact, are our heroes. We admire your resilience and sacrifice, your dedication. Russia is with you, we believe in you, we feel for you and our veterans," the president emphasized.

According to the president, the country is going through a "difficult and milestone" period, and its fate and future depends on "each of us."

"Russia is going through a difficult period, its fate and its future depend on each of us. Today, on Victory Day, we realize this even more clearly, and we always look up to the victors' generation - the courageous, noble, and wise one," Putin added.

Russian Putin said that the descendants bow their heads before the deceased veterans of the Great Patriotic War, their combat comrades, who fell in battle against Nazism and neo-Nazism.

"Today, we bow our heads before the blessed memory of all those who had their life taken by the Great Patriotic War, before the memory of sons, daughters, fathers, mothers, grandparents, great-grandfathers, husbands, wives, brothers, sisters, relatives, and friends. We bow our heads before the late veterans of the Great Patriotic War, before the memory of the civilians who died from the barbaric shelling and attacks of neo-Nazis, before our comrades who fell in the fight against neo-Nazism in the righteous fight for Russia," he underlined.

"Revanchism, mockery of history, and the desire to justify the current followers of the Nazis are part of the general policy of the Western elites to foment more and more regional conflicts, inter-ethnic and inter-religious hostility to contain sovereign, independent centers of world development," he noted.
The president also said that the Western elites now pursue a policy of "justification of Nazism."
Russia will always remember and will never forget the common struggle and traditions of alliances in the fight against Nazism, the president stressed.
"We will never forget our common struggle and inspiring traditions of alliance," said Putin.
Speaking at the parade, the head of state noted that Russia honors the courage of all soldiers of the anti-Hitler coalition.

"Russia has never underestimated the importance of the second front and the help of the allies," the president added.

Putin: The truth about World War II is being distorted.
Russia’s strategic forces are always in combat readiness, the leader noted during his speech at the parade.
"Our strategic forces are always in combat readiness," Putin said, adding that Russia will make all efforts to prevent a global confrontation.
Putin concluded his speech at the parade with the words, “Glory to the valiant armed forces! For Russia! For victory! Hurray!”
