THE PEOPLE WHO WON THE WAR EXHIBITION TO OPEN IN WARSAW

WARSAW, May 9 (RIA Novosti, Leonid Sviridov) - A travelling photo exhibition The People Who Triumphed the War opens in the capital of Poland on May 9. It is dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Great Victory.

The solemn opening ceremony will be held in the historical part of Warsaw at the Art-Villa gallery.

RIA Novosti will exhibit more than 150 unique B&W photos of the 1941-1945 period from the Sovinformbureau archives. RIA Novosti is the rightful successor of the Sovinformbureau. Copies of declassified documents from archives of the State Defense Committee, signed by Josef Stalin, will be on display in Warsaw, as well.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation in Poland Nikolai Afanasyevsky, ambassadors from CIS countries and representatives of Warsaw city authorities are expected to participate in the opening of the photo exhibition.

A large delegation of Russian veterans of the Great Patriotic War, who participated in the liberation of Warsaw, will arrive in Poland to attend the opening of the RIA Novosti photo exhibition.

The show at the Art-Villa gallery will last till May 23. The public access to the exhibition is free-of-charge.

The first showing of the RIA Novosti traveling photo exhibition took place in September 2004 at the Headquarters of the Polish Press Agency in Warsaw. Later, it traveled around Poland, visiting Gdansk, Krakov, Poznan and Olstin.
