13% of adult Russians are Internet users

MOSCOW, June 16 (RIA Novosti) - In the first quarter of 2003, Russia had 15 million Internet users (13% of the population over 18). These people use the Internet at least once a month.

According to the poll conducted by the ROMIR (Russian Public Opinion and Market Research) Monitoring holding, 10% of them use the Internet weekly and 4% - daily.

The number of active Internet users is bigger in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg and other cities which population exceeds 500,000. Respondents in small towns use the Internet once or twice a month.

Moscow with 40% of Internet users stands out from other cities. Moscow and the Moscow region let the Central Federal District dominate over other districts - 30% of its population use the Internet.

Men (56%) and people aged 18-24 (39%) prevail among Internet users.

Most users (63%) have computers at home but only 45% of them have Internet access and roam the Internet every day or several times a week.

ROMIR conducted a nationwide poll of 1,600 adults in 100 settlements.
