MOSCOW, September 19 (RIA Novosti) - Pilot Valery Troyanov of the Su-27 plane that crashed in Lithuania last week should be given immunity by the Lithuanian government against prosecution in compliance with international law, the Foreign Ministry said Monday.

The pilot and Su-27 fighter should return to Russia, the ministry said, adding that it hoped "for a constructive resolution of this problem."

Troyanov was examined by Lithuanian doctors and is in a satisfactory condition. He is participating in the investigation.

Troyanov gave evidence to Lithuanian Prosecutor-General officials in the presence of his lawyer and a representative of the Russian embassy in Vilnius, the ministry said.

The Russian Su-27 fighter, en route to the Kaliningrad region, the Russian exclave on the Baltic Sea, crashed after its navigation equipment failed Sept. 15. Troyanov ejected before impact.
