KRASNOYARSK, November 26 (RIA Novosti) - Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov said Saturday that United Russia must not ignore the government's failings.
Addressing the Sixth Congress of the United Russia Party in Krasnoyarsk Saturday, Luzhkov slammed not only many of the government's lines of activity but also the party's "tacit acquiescence."
According to Luzhkov, the budget surplus during the past several years showed that insufficient funding was being provided, above all for the country's eastern regions. He said that although the ruling authorities had ensured financial stabilization in the country, they failed to ensure sustainable economic development.
"While living standards are improving, the government's performance standards are unacceptable," Luzhkov said.
He said that the ruling party gave insufficient priority to such failings, keeping silent most of the time.
Earlier, Luzhkov declared that he was not going to quit as Moscow mayor before his term expired.
