Ukraine's foreign trade balance down $5.5 billion in 2005

KIEV, February 20 (RIA Novosti, Vladimir Suprun) - Ukraine's favorable foreign trade balance declined by $5.5 billion in 2005, year-on-year, to $1.4 billion, the State Statistics Committee said Monday.

According to statistics, Ukraine's foreign trade totaled $79.5 billion in 2005, up 15.1% on 2004.

Trade with the Commonwealth of Independent States, a loose association of 11 former Soviet republics, aggregated $31.1 billion and increased by 16.7%.

In 2005, Ukraine's services exports exceeded imports by $3.2 billion, whereas merchandise imports exceeded exports by $1.9 billion, the statistics committee said.
