"The registration of candidates is over and we have only one candidate, Vladislav Tretyak," acting Federation president Vladimir Shalayev said.
Tretyak was nominated for the post by the Moscow, St. Petersburg and Saratov Ice Hockey Federations, as regulations state that an applicant cannot propose his own candidacy.
Previous head of the federation Alexander Steblin resigned March 24. The federation immediately set up an 11-member commission to prepare for a special session slated for April 25 to elect a new president.
When asked why he had resigned, Steblin said the federation was in need of new people and new ideas.
"I am not ashamed of my work," he said. "There were not always [good] results, and in the last Olympics [in Italy], we had a brilliant [quarterfinals] victory over Canada and then a weak game against Finland."
Russia's Olympic ice-hockey team finished fourth at the Winter Olympics in Turin, failing to reach the finals after losing 0:4 to Finland in the semifinals and then 0:3 to the Czech Republic in the game for the bronze medal.
