Gazprom, Dow Chemical agree on joint energy projects in Europe, Russia

Gazprom (RTS: GAZP) and U.S.-based Dow Chemical [NYSE: DOW] have agreed to cooperate on European and Russian energy markets, the Russian energy giant said in a news release Friday.

MOSCOW, May 26 (RIA Novosti) - Gazprom (RTS: GAZP) and U.S.-based Dow Chemical [NYSE: DOW] have agreed to cooperate on European and Russian energy markets, the Russian energy giant said in a news release Friday.

Alexei Miller, chief executive of Gazprom, which covers 25% of Europe's natural gas needs, had a meeting with his opposite number from Dow Chemical, Andrew Liveris, to discuss joint energy projects.

"The sides considered prospects for joint efforts on energy markets in Europe and Russia," the press service said. "The meeting said more intensive partnership was vital."

Dow Chemical is the world's major chemical producer with annual turnover exceeding $33 billion. The company operates in more than 180 countries and produces over 2,000 chemical products.
