MOSCOW, September 2 (RIA Novosti) - President Vladimir Putin has held a meeting with permanent members of Russia's Security Council to discuss various issues of domestic and foreign policy, the president's press secretary said Saturday.
Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said yesterday that Russia was not planning to change its foreign policy, but may correct some areas of its diplomatic activity in the near future.
He said Russia "would maintain the key principles of its foreign policy," adding that the Foreign Ministry has already started revising its policies in accordance with President Vladimir Putin's instructions.
Lavrov said Russia intended to defend its national interests without confrontation, consolidate its position on world markets and ensure national security.
