MUNICH, February 11 (RIA Novosti) - Iran is still considering Russia's proposal on a joint venture to enrich uranium, the head of the Iranian National Security Council said Sunday.
In a bid to soften possible sanctions against Iran, Russia earlier proposed to set up a joint venture to enrich uranium for Iran on Russian soil.
Iran has not given up Russia's uranium enrichment proposal but its framework has to be expanded, Ali Larijani told the international security conference in Munich.
Iran has been at the center of international concerns since January 2006 over its nuclear program, which some countries, particularly the United States, suspect is geared toward nuclear weapons development. Tehran has consistently denied the claims, and says it needs nuclear power for civilian purposes.
