ROSTOV-ON-DON/NALCHIK, September 6 (RIA Novosti) - Gas supplies to three towns in Russia's southern republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, cut off after a pipeline explosion, have been restored, Russian emergencies services said Thursday.
The pipe was badly damaged in an explosion late Wednesday in the town of Elbrus, near a mountain of the same name. Supplies to 173 homes and six multi-story buildings were cut, affecting about 2,000 people in four settlements.
According to preliminary reports, the blast was caused by an explosive device that went off under the pipeline.
An investigation into the incident is underway.
