MOSCOW, February 10 (RIA Novosti) - King of Jordan Abdullah II arrives in Moscow on a two-day visit on Sunday to discuss the situation in Iraq, Iran and the Middle East, a Russian presidential aide said.

Sergei Prikhodko said on February 11 Abdullah II will hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and First Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

"Traditionally, the talks will focus on topical international and regional issues, first of all, the settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict," Prikhodko said.

According to Prikhodko, Putin and Abdullah II will discuss in detail the situation in the Gaza Strip in the light of the recent developments and the restoration of Palestinian unity.

Islamic group Hamas seized control of Gaza from the pro-presidential Fatah movement in June 2007 after months of infighting. In September, Israel declared Gaza, with a population of 1.5 million, an "enemy entity."

Since mid-January, the Israeli military has stepped up raids on Gaza border towns in response to militant rocket attacks on Israel.

Prikhodko said Russia and Jordan were committed to comprehensive and long-lasting settlement of the Arab-Israeli conflict based on international law and spoke for energetic assistance to efforts to restore the Mideast peace process.
