MOSCOW, June 4 (RIA Novosti) - The head of Russia's state news agency RIA Novosti presented the agency's new two-floor newsroom, the only one of its kind in Russia, to foreign journalists at an international media forum in Sweden.

Speaking at the forum in Gothenburg on Tuesday, Editor-in-Chief Svetlana Mironyuk recounted on her five-month experience of running the new integrated multimedia information processing and presentation center.

"Technical appliances ranging from digital screens to a news ticker display and a public address system were installed to streamline interaction between the main and the auxiliary floors, the lower and the upper ones respectively," she said.

The newsroom, with floorspace of 1,100 square meters, houses the Integrated News Department, providing multi-format coverage of events with traditional text, video and infographic presentation of news, opinion, and entertainment.

The idea behind the new newsroom is to help the department's 300 correspondents and editors improve their efficiency through prompt exchange of information, better planning and tight coordination.

The forum in Gothenburg was organized by the World Association of Newspapers (WAN), which represents over 18,000 publications on five continents.

WAN, founded in 1948 and based in Paris, is a non-profit, non-government organization that groups 76 national newspaper associations, individual newspaper executives in 102 nations, 10 news agencies, and 10 regional press organizations.

RIA Novosti became an associate member of the WAN last September.
