A Russian company in India has asked the authorities of the state of Goa to postpone their plans to confiscate its property, the company's lawyer said on Tuesday.

A Russian company in India has asked the authorities of the state of Goa to postpone their plans to confiscate its property, the company's lawyer said on Tuesday.

"We have sent a petition to the first deputy head of the Goa state administration, in which we ask him to postpone the seizure until the case is considered by a court of appeal," Vikram Varma told RIA Novosti.

In early September the Goa administration, on an instruction from fiscal bodies, decided to confiscate land plots owned by Russians and other foreigners over the violation of laws during the purchase and registration of real estate.

The list of facilities subject to priority seizure includes a 20,000 sq m entertainment complex at Russian businessman Leonid Beyzer's True Axis Resorts Private Ltd.

Varma said there are no legal grounds for the confiscation, as the violations in question are purely technical.

The lawyer said the property seizure would "undermine the trust in the thoroughly implemented and brilliant policy of 'open doors' for foreign direct investment in India."
