A Russia-EU summit with the participation of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev opened in Brussels on Tuesday.
Addressing the EU participants at the beginning of the summit, Medvedev emphasized that multilateral cooperation between Russian and the EU has yielded extremely positive results in 2010.
"The agreement to conclude talks with the EU on Russia's accession to the WTO is of great importance," the Russian president also said.
Russia has been negotiating World Trade Organization (WTO) entry for 17 years and is likely to join the global trade body next year.
Apart from accession to the WTO, steps to scrap visa regime between Russia and the EU, energy security and measures to tackle the aftermath of the global economic downturn will be discussed at the summit.
