Sergei Ovchinnikov, the 43-year-old coach who was found dead in his hotel room last week, will be buried Thursday in his hometown of Yaroslavl, the head of the All-Russian Volleyball Federation has told R-Sport.

Ovchinnikov was discovered dead Wednesday in the Croatian resort town of Porec, where he had been staying with his club Dynamo Moscow for a preseason training camp.

With the official account of what happened yet to be issued, speculation has mounted that he committed suicide.

The funeral will take plaсe at Yaroslavl's Atlant Arena on Thursday, Stanislav Shevchenko said Monday.

Ovchinnikov led the Russian team to the quarterfinals at the Olympics last month after taking over as coach in December.

Russia was beaten 3-2 in the Olympic quarterfinals by eventual champion Brazil after squandering six match points, a result widely seen as a failure back home for one of the medal favorites.

The funeral in Yaroslavl comes a day before the first anniversary of the air crash that wiped out the entire Lokomotiv Yaroslavl hockey team.

Among the 44 people killed on September 7 last year were Canadian head coach Brad McCrimmon and a host of former NHL stars and future draft prospects.

Local hockey fans will walk in silent procession to the team's Lokomotiv arena on Friday to honor their memory.
