Obama Says Attorney General Holder to Stay in Office Until Successor Picked
US President Barack Obama has confirmed late on Thursday that the nation's Attorney General Eric Holder was resigning, but added he would stay in office until his successor was picked.
MOSCOW, September 26 (RIA Novosti) - US President Barack Obama has confirmed late on Thursday that the nation's Attorney General Eric Holder was resigning, but added he would stay in office until his successor was picked.
"Eric [Holder] has agreed to stay on as attorney general until I nominate a successor and that successor
is confirmed by the Senate," Obama said at a press conference in the White House.
Obama praised Holder for doing a "superb job" and commended his contribution to fighting corruption and violent crime in the country, as well as protect civil rights. "It's a pretty good track record," Obama remarked.
Holder is the first African-American on this post, after serving served as deputy attorney general under Janet Reno during the Clinton administration.
