One of the most prestigious awards in the world of audio and video recordings, the Diapason d'Or de l'Année, has been granted to the digital version of the Bolshoi Theatre's production of the opera 'Ruslan and Luidmila', the press service of the theater said in a statement.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The DVD production of Mikhail Glinka's opera 'Ruslan and Lyudmila' greeted audiences at the Bolshoi Theatre after its renovation, conducted by Vladimir Jurowski and directed by Dmitri Tcherniakov.
"I'm very happy [that this wonderful] production has won the Diapason d'Or prize, … and it is a very important event for me. We did it together with Vladimir Jurowski, an amazing conductor and collaborator, for the Bolshoi six years ago in 2011. We did it for the reopening of the historic building, of the historic stage of the Bolshoi after seven years of renovation," Tcherniakov said after receiving the award.
Ruslan and Lyudmila has been performed on the main stage of the Bolshoi in nine different productions. The opera was shown for the first time in the theater over 170 years ago and is considered to be an integral part of the Bolshoi's history.
