Russian President Dmitry Medvedev suggested on Monday introducing fees for the disposal of environmentally harmful products.
"Ecological standards should not be considered by businesses as exotic or some kind of public duty, which is only made to please their bosses," Medvedev said.
He also said all goods purchased by state orders and services should meet international ecological standards.
"All goods purchased by state orders must comply with international ecological standards," the president said.
Medvedev is holding a meeting of the commission on modernization and technological development of the economy dedicated to environmental aspects.
Presidential aide Arkady Dvorkovich told journalists on Friday that promising technology, which may be used to reduce emissions of hazardous substances and raise energy efficiency, will in particular be discussed at the meeting.
Energy Minister Sergei Shmatko, Natural Resources Minister Yury Trutnev and state corporation Rosatom head Sergei Kiriyenko are expected to deliver reports.
