Two quakes hit Russia’s Far East; no casualties reported

Two earthquakes measuring between 5.7 and 3.6 magnitude were registered near the Kamchatka peninsula, in Russia’s Far East

Two earthquakes measuring between 3.6 and 5.7 magnitude were registered near the Kamchatka peninsula, in Russia’s Far East, local geophysics center reported.

The first quake, measured at 3.6 magnitude, hit the region on late Wednesday.

Several hours later, another quake hit the same region and was measured at 5.7 magnitude.

No casualties or damage were reported after the quakes and no tsunami warning was issued.

The Kamchatka Peninsula has also several active volcanoes and is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, a region where 90% of the world's earthquakes and 80% of the world's largest earthquakes occur.
