Talks on Russia's accession to WTO to open in Geneva

GENEVA, June 20 (RIA Novosti, Yekaterina Andrianova) - The latest round of talks on Russia's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) will start in Geneva today.

An official meeting of the Working Party on Russia's accession to the WTO is scheduled for Friday, June 24. The meeting, which chairman of the Working Party Stefan Johannesson will preside over, will focus on the third, revised version of the working group's final report.

Russian Minister of Economic Development and Trade German Gref is expected to address the participants in the meeting. In addition, Gref is scheduled to meet with WTO Director-General Dr. Supachai Panitchpakdi.

In the framework of the current round of talks, which will end on June 29, the Russian delegation plans to conduct bilateral negotiations on access to internal markets with about 20 countries, including the United States, Australia, Canada, Switzerland, Japan, India, Argentina, Brazil, Panama, Dominican Republic, Honduras and Ecuador.

Multilateral consultations on agriculture and phytosanitary norms are scheduled for Tuesday, June 21.

Maxim Medvedkov, the director of the department for trade talks at the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, is heading the Russian delegation.
