The RRJ project is a family of medium-range passenger aircraft developed by Sukhoi in cooperation with major American and European aviation corporations, including Boeing, Snecma, Thales, Messier Dowty, Liebherr Aerospace, and Honeywell.
"During a visit by Snecma and Air France chief executives, the SaM146 engine for the RRJ project was hot-started, demonstrating the successful results that have been achieved so far and showing that the project is running according to schedule," a spokeswoman for the Saturn Scientific-Industrial Association (NPO Saturn) said.
The company representative said the bench run test, which started July 5, would last for a month, adding that the company had built one of the most powerful supercomputers in Russia to design and process engine test data.
NPO Saturn, based in Rybinsk in the central Russian Yaroslavl Region, is one of Russia's largest designers and producers of aircraft engines and gas-turbine generators.
Sukhoi plans to produce at least 700 RRJs, and intends to sell 35% of them to North America, 25% to Europe, 10% to Latin America, and 7% to Russia and China.
The RRJ market is estimated at 5,400-5,600 units until 2023 and valued at $100 billion.
In May, Russia's national carrier Aeroflot approved a $630 million deal to buy 30 mid-range Russian Regional Jets.
