MOSCOW, December 5 (RIA Novosti) - Comstar United Telesystems [RTS: CMST] said Tuesday its U.S. GAAP net profit in the first nine months of 2006 increased 74%, year-on-year, to $145.6 million.
Comstar UTS, the largest multi-service communications operator in Moscow and the Moscow Region, as well as in several Russian regions and former Soviet republics, said in a news release that its earnings in January-September grew by 30%, to $828.2 million, year-on-year, operating income before depreciation and amortization (OIBDA) by 23%, to $331.2 million, and operating profit by 20%, to $240 million.
The company was formed in May 2004 through a merger of Comstar, MTU-Inform and Telmos.
Comstar UTS' main shareholder is AFK Sistema [RTS: AFKS], Russia's leading telecoms and services holding company, which has a 54.58% stake in the company.
