Volkswagen could start auto assembly in central Russia in fall

The German auto producer Volkswagen plans to start car assembly at its Kaluga plant in central Russia in October, the regional economics minister said Thursday.
MOSCOW, May 10 (RIA Novosti) - The German auto producer Volkswagen plans to start car assembly at its Kaluga plant in central Russia in October, the regional economics minister said Thursday.

Volkswagen launched the construction of its assembly facility in Kaluga in late October 2006. The facility, which will be spread over 12,000 square meters, is expected to produce Skoda and Passat cars from late 2007, and also Polo cars from 2009.

The Kaluga plant is expected to assemble 115,000 cars a year.
