ST. PETERSBURG, April 6 (RIA Novosti) - Participants in an international economic forum to be held in St. Petersburg in June are currently being selected from a host of applicants, the forum's president said on Tuesday.

German Gref, a former economics minister who now heads Russia's largest state-owned bank Sberbank, said the 12th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum due to be held on June 6-8 would involve large, innovative companies, or those taking part in arrangements for the forum.

"A total of 1,460 participants had been registered as of Monday," Gref said, adding that applications from companies looking to participate in the forum were still arriving.

The 12th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum is held with the support and under the auspices of the Russian president. The forum will see global leaders discussing the most pressing issues facing Russia and the international community.

The event traditionally involves presidents, heads of governments and parliaments, ministers from a number of countries, the international business elite, and editors-in-chief of the world's largest media outlets, as well as other newsmakers.

RIA Novosti is the forum's general information partner.
