MOSCOW, October 16 (RIA Novosti) - Russian aluminum giant RusAl said on Thursday its primary aluminum output had increased 6.5%, year-on-year, in January-September to 3.3 million metric tons.

United Company RusAl, established in March 2007 through a merger of Russian aluminum giants RusAl and SUAL and Swiss Glencore's alumina assets, said alumina output had increased 2% to 8.4 million metric tons and bauxite production had grown 3.4% to 13.5 million metric tons in the reporting period.

The production of value-added casthouse products climbed 10.8% to account for 51% of the company's total aluminum output, RusAl said.

"We have completed the first nine months of 2008 with positive results and growth in the entire product range," RusAl CEO Alexander Bulygin said.

RusAl's revenues increased 14%, year-on-year, in January-September to $12.3 billion, with revenues from sales outside Russia climbing 14.6% to $9.3 billion and sales on the Russian market growing 12.2% to $3 billion, RusAl said.

"I am confident that the situation in the aluminum industry today provides an opportunity for companies to become even more competitive and strengthen their efficiency by exploring new opportunities. UC RusAl intends to take advantage of this challenging time to strengthen its position in the mining and metals industry," Bulygin said.
