An international economic forum to be held in Khabarovsk on September 8-9 will map out areas for economic development in Russia's Far East and East Siberia.

MOSCOW, September 2 (RIA Novosti) - An international economic forum to be held in Khabarovsk on September 8-9 will map out areas for economic development in Russia's Far East and East Siberia, a government official said on Wednesday.

"We view this forum as an important means of implementing tasks for the development of the Far East and East Siberia," said Sergei Yurpalov, a deputy regional development minister.

The forum will also discuss the issues of improving living standards, the development of regional power engineering, and reducing the regions' transport isolation, the deputy minister said. It will also look at ways to encourage people to remain in the Far East rather than migrating to European Russia.

"But the main thing is that it will allow the federal authorities and top managers of major corporations to receive feedback from Far East residents, i.e. from those whom these decisions directly concern and who carry them out," Yurpalov said.

The government official said that the forum would also focus on strengthening relations with countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

The RIA Novosti international news agency is a general information partner of the Far Eastern economic forum.
