Norilsk Nickel, the world's largest nickel and palladium producer, posted an 8.5 percent fall in its second-quarter nickel output to 64,694 tons compared to the previous quarter, Norilsk Nickel said on Thursday.

"The changes in nickel output in the reporting period are due to early seasonal suspension of sea navigation in the course of the spring flood for Russian assets and due to falls in production volumes at the international assets of the group," the company said in a statement.

The company's copper output in the second quarter of 2011 fell 3.8 percent on the previous uarter to 90,451 tons, while palladium output rose 9.3 percent to 744,000 troy ounces,  Norilsk Nickel said.

Norilsk Nickel's platinum output in April-June grew 11.7 percent to 190,000 troy ounces.
