By 12.15 GMT, London's FTSE 100 dropped 2.47 percent to 5,200.14, Frankfurt's Dax lost 3.92 percent to 5,715.81, while France's Cac 40 went down 2.77 percent to 3,164.09.

The Russian stock market ijoined in the gloom on international trading floors with the RTS index plunging 3.02 percent by 16:15 Moscow time to 1,613.58, and the MICEX down 2.12 percent to 1,477.21.
