The Russian-Ukrainian gas talks taking place in Moscow are fruitful and will be continued next week, Russia's gas giant Gazprom said on Friday.

"The meeting was constructive. The parties decided to continue negotiations next week," Gazprom said in a statement, following the talks between Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller and Ukrainian Energy Minister Yury Boyko.

Ukraine is seeking to review gas deals with Russia, saying the 2009 contract's gas price formula is unfair. Moscow has tied the price for gas to the international spot price for oil, which have risen strongly since due to the instability in the Middle East. Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has said Ukraine was ready for compromise.

Last weekend Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich and Russian authorities held gas talks in Moscow, after which the Russian president's press service said that considerable progress had been reached during the negotiations.
