Russia's prominent conductor and virtuoso pianist Vladimir Ashkenazy and famous pianist Evgeny Kissin won the U.S. Grammy awards in the Best Instrumental Soloist Performance category, grammy.com reported.
At the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles, the Russian musicians received the prestigious U.S. music trophies for their performance of Prokofiev's Piano Concertos Nos. 2 and 3.
Ashkenazy, 72, a citizen of Iceland since 1972, currently lives in Switzerland. He received six Grammies between 1974 and 2000.
Russian-born British classical pianist Kissin, 38, won a Grammy in 2006.
The first recordings of the recently established Mariinsky recording label, Dmitry Shostakovich's opera The Nose and his First and Fifteenth Symphonies, were nominated for a Grammy, however did not win.
The Mariinsky label founded by Russian conductor Valery Gergiev and his Mariinsky Theater released its first disc in May 2009. All Mariinsky discs are recorded in the Concert Hall of the St. Petersburg-based Mariinsky Theater using ultra modern equipment installed in the hall.
