Over 700 refugees crossed the Uzbek border fleeing Kyrgyzstan hit by the mass inter-ethnic riots, the deputy head of the Kyrgyz Border Service said on Saturday.
The violence in the country has worsened in recent days, with deadly inter-ethnic riots on Thursday in the southern city of Osh and Saturday's unrest in another southern city of Jalalabad.
Earlier the Red Crescent humanitarian organization reported 6,000 ethnic Uzbeks crossed Kyrgyz-Uzbek boarder.
"I would hesitate to say 6,000 people had crossed the boarder. The main thing is that the corridor [for crossing] was opened and Uzbek boarder guards did not prevent the crossing," Cholponbek Turusbekov said.
He said over 1,500 people had gathered at the checkpoint of Akbuura crossing along with 4,000 in Jalalabad region waiting for the boarder to open.
Kyrgyz Health ministry said 77 died, 1024 injured during the inter-ethnic violence in south Kyrgyzstan.
