Russia's energy giant Gazprom has paid Belarus $228 million as a fee for transiting Russian gas to Europe, the company's spokesman, Sergei Kupriyanov, said on Thursday.

"There are no problems that could hamper gas supplies or transit," he said, adding "all necessary commands have been made" to resume gas supplies to Belarus.

Minks has demanded Russia pay $260 in transit fees.

The dispute between Russia and Belarus has erupted as Minsk has refused to pay the full price for Russian gas.

Gazprom head Alexei Miller said on Thursday Belarus had paid its debt.

Gazprom reduced supplies to Belarus by 60% over Minsk's $200 million gas debt. The company initially cut supplies by 15% on Monday, doubling the reduction to 30% on Tuesday and again to 60% on Wednesday.
