The United States on Tuesday dismissed Iran’s warning to keep the U.S. aircraft carrier, which recently left the area, away from the Gulf.
Iran’s military has told Washington not to send its aircraft carrier back to the Persian Gulf, threatening the U.S. with response measures.
“I think it reflects the fact that Iran is in a position of weakness. It’s the latest round of Iranian threats and it’s confirmation that Tehran is under increasing pressure for its continued failures to live up to its international obligation,” White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters.
“Iran is isolated and is seeking to divert attention from its behavior and domestic problems,” he said.
“This is simply a measure of the impact that sanctions have been having on Iran and the broad international support for taking - putting pressure on Iran and isolating Iran because of its refusal to live up to its international obligations,” Carney said.
Iran’s navy, involved in the Velayat-90 military drills, discovered an American aircraft carrier nearby last Thursday. The situation around the maneuvers escalated when Iranian authorities said they might close the Strait of Hormuz - a threat the United States rejected as well.
The West accuses Iran of pursuing a secret nuclear weapons program. The Islamic Republic denies the accusation, saying its nuclear program is for civilian purposes only.

- bielecWhat Iran's international obligations is he talking about?09:14, 04/01/2012Iran is a member of the IAEA and a signatory of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. There is no evidence that Iran is diverting its nuclear program to military purposes.
On the other hand, Israel has a military nuclear program and has nukes. Israel is not a member of the IAEA and did not sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
Carney probably mixed up the two countries. He is loosing it.- mrgenieConfused15:07, 04/01/2012IAEA inspectors found proof, which has been verified and confirmed by most intelligence agencies on the planet, including the Russian intelligence service btw, to have worked on a military program at least until 2010. Before there was only proof until 2002, and thus no further actions required as Mr. Putin said. but the Tsar of Russia also repeatingly stated it's not in the interests of Russia for Iran to become a nuclear power. Now there's proof up to 2010 which has been confirmed by Russia's secret service and thus by direct orders of the Tsar, his puppet Medwedew was ordered to take a harder line towards Iran. Not the same line as EU, Japan, USA, most of the Arab countries and many more countries, but Ruussia's line is getting closer now it's proven that Iran considered Russia and it's people as morons between 2002 and 2010. iran might think Russians are dumb people and lie to them, but at least for the period between 2002 and 2010 now Russia found out about it, as the other world nations found out as well. And I doubt the Tsar of Russia will take it light that Iran considers Russians total morons. Most Russians are smart and insulted by Iran, of course dumb people who think it's ok for Iran to laugh at Russians still think Iran is a sweet candy. But sooner or later even the most ignorant dumbass will see Iran is not Iraq who at least had respect for the Russian people.
- DariusWhat about the belligerent sanctions ?!11:03, 04/01/2012The belligerent statements are only an answer to belligerent sanctions.
Such sanctions are an act of war ! - arnoldvinette@yahoo.comUnited States is completely at fault over the current situation18:21, 04/01/2012It is my personal opinion that the United States, France, Britain, Canada and NATO are 100% at fault for the current escalation of tensions in the Middle East area with Iran.
All of these countries have imposed economic banking sanctions on Iran with the intention of trying to hurt Iran economically.
Iran believe it or not has the right to develop nuclear energy for the purpose of civilian energy projects.
Iran also has the right to develop nuclear weapons as a deterrent to invasion for its energy supplies.
The United States, France, Britain, Canada and Israel have all fired the first shot to create tensions in the Middle East, NOT Iran.
Iran has a right to stop oil traffic in the Strait of Hormuz in response to these economic sanctions against it.
Iran also has the right to completely stop selling its oil and gas to European customers and find new customers.
The United States and European countries all run out of their domestic oil supplies by 2020.
Oil prices are simply going to go up and Iran simply needs to wait them out.
Let Saudi Arabia take up the slack the only country who looses is the United States as their oil exports go down. Saudi Arabia depletes its oil reserves even more.
