China will mourn the victims of a severe mudslide in its northwestern Gansu Province on August 15, local media reported on Saturday.

Chinese flags will fly at half-mast in the country and in its embassies and consulates overseas. Public entertainment will also be suspended on Sunday to express the deep condolences for the mudslide victims.

Triggered mudslides in northwest China's Gansu Province have killed 1,156 so far, with 588 others still missing.

In Gansu, the mudslides tore down entire apartment blocks, and buried houses and streets under deep layers of mud.

Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao has called for a massive search and rescue work and early restoration of drinking water supplies, the Xinhua news agency said.

China's emergencies ministry said earlier that over 1,000 people have been killed and millions were displaced since the start of the year as a result of heavy floods. Weather specialists say current floods may be the strongest in China in the past 12 years.
