People are being evacuated from temporally shelters in Haiti, which is still devastating after a January earthquake, as Hurricane Tomas approaching the country, world media said.

A 7.0 magnitude earthquake followed by aftershocks devastated Haiti on January 12. Estimates as to the final death toll in the earthquake range to over 220,000 in and around the capital Port-au-Prince.

Several hundred thousand homes were destroyed. More than three million were left without shelter.

Now, those who survived the earthquake have to flee temporally refugee camps as the new natural disaster threatens their lives.

The storm has already killed 14 people in Saint Lucia and is to hit Haiti today.

In October steady rains flooded parts of Haiti's capital Port au Prince, turning streets into rivers and leaving at least 12 people dead. Later the same month at least two hundred and fifty people have died by cholera in Haiti, though officials claim that now the outbreak us under control with fewer new deaths being reported.

The hurricane will exacerbate the situation, and will damage water systems causing a spread of the cholera epidemic, which is now active in the region, world media cited aid agencies.

Forecasters predicted heavy rains, which are to cause flooding and mudslides in the country.
