Russian President Dmitry Medvedev proposed G8 leaders to adopt a global plan on anti-drug trafficking efforts, his aide Arkady Dvorkovich said on Saturday.
"The Russian president spoke about the necessity to adopt a global plan on efforts against drug trafficking," he told journalists in Toronto.
He said the Russian leader called for more international coordination on the issue.
According to the Russian interior ministry, around 80 people die from drug abuse in Russia every day, or approximately 30,000 every year. Over 550,000 people were registered with health authorities as suffering from drug addiction last year.
