Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi called on his supporters on Sunday to "march by the millions" and put an end to the rebellion in the country forever.
"Their time is over, they run from town to town as rats," said Gaddafi in a message on the state TV.
He said the rebels were traitors responsible for sufferings of the Libyan people and destruction of cities.
Gaddafi confirmed he was still in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, which was rocked by blasts and gunfire on Saturday evening, according to media reports.
Al Jazeera reported the uprising in Tripoli on Saturday was initiated by the citizens themselves.
Witnesses said that demonstrators took to the streets of Tripoli demanding Gaddafi's overthrow.
The rebels claim that Gaddafi's regime is about to fall, while the government spokesman Moussa Ibrahim said the situation in the capital was under control.
