MOSCOW, May 27 (RIA Novosti) - Russia will study closely the conclusions contained in the report made by Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe Alvaro Gil-Robles regarding the human rights situation in Russia, said Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"In the next two years, we will actively work on changing the situation in several areas of your responsibility, rather than simply reacting on it," the President stated during the Moscow meeting with Alvaro Gil-Robles.

According to Putin, chairman of the Human Rights Committee under the Russian President Ella Pamfilova will be constantly monitoring this work.

"I hope Vladimir Lukin, Human Rights Ombudsman of the Russian Federation, will be kept informed of all problems we will tackle in relation to your report," Putin affirmed.

The Russian President pointed out that in some places the report contained rather harsh conclusions, but it was objective overall.

"I studied the document rather thoroughly. I am pleased that you also mentioned the progress made by Russia in the last 10-15 years," Putin said.

In his turn, Alvaro Gil-Robles said his intention was to prepare a report on human rights situation in Russia that would help solving human rights problems in Russia.

"I would like to thank you and the authorities of the Russian Federation for the support and broad cooperation in the preparation of this report," he stressed.

"It was very important for me to prepare a report on Russia, which is considered a grand European democracy," Alvaro Gil-Robles said.
