MOSCOW, June 2 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian, Indian and Chinese foreign ministers came out for an overall reform of the UN and Security Council at the 4th informal trilateral meeting in Vladivostok (Russia's Far East) on Thursday.

"Russia, India and China share a common approach to key issues of the world's development in the 21st century and come out for democratization of international relations aimed at building just international order," the ministers said in a joint statement. The new order "should be based on the international law, equality, mutual respect, cooperation and movement towards multi-polarity."

The United Nations being "a most universal international organization should play the central role in attaining these goals," the foreign ministers said.

The ministers agreed that the UN and UN Security Council needed an overall reform "to let the organization fully reflect modern realities and fulfill its functions more effectively."

According to the ministers, Russia, India and China are ready for trilateral cooperation to fight against new threats and challenges.

Terrorism "regardless of its sources and motives is one of the most serious threats to international peace and security," they said.

"The fight against terrorism should be long-term and consistent with no double standards," the ministers added.

The sides pointed to the necessity to coordinate efforts of Russian, Indian and Chinese law enforcement bodies against drug trafficking and trans-border crime.

The three foreign ministers said that Russia, India and China had a big potential of mutually beneficial cooperation in transport, agricultural, energy and hi-tech spheres. Experts and officials of the three countries can examine cooperation opportunities in these and other spheres to work out practical proposals. The ministers also spoke about the importance of direct business contacts and backed the proposal to organize a trilateral business forum in India by late March 2006.

The ministers expressed satisfaction with rapid development of bilateral relations between Russia and India, Russia and China, India and China.

"It gives new opportunities to raise our trilateral cooperation to a new level," the foreign ministers concluded.
